For Dependent
Children of Active, Retired and Deceased
Soldiers
Army Emergency
Relief (AER)
is a private non-profit organization with the primary mission of
providing financial assistance to Soldiers and their dependents in time
of valid emergency need. The MG James Ursano Scholarship Program was
established in 1976 as a secondary mission to help Army Families with
undergraduate college expenses for their dependent children.
The MG James Ursano Scholarship Program
offers scholarships based on financial need,
academics, and leadership/achievement.
ELIGIBILITY
CRITERIA
To be eligible, applicants must:

Maintain a cumulative GPA of a 2.0 on a
4.0 scale
-
Be full time undergraduate students for
the entire academic year at a school
accredited by the U.S. Department of
Education
-
Be dependents of a Soldier on federal
active duty, a retiree, or a deceased
active or retired Soldier
SCHOLARSHIP FUND USES
The scholarship funds are split evenly
between the fall and spring semesters, or
terms or quarters. The funds are to be used
for tuition, fees, books, supplies and
school room and board either on or off
campus as requested by the student.

application is available on our website,

after November 15, 2007 and will be due on March
1, 2008. Hardcopy applications may be
requested by contacting Kasey Phillips at

are strongly encouraged to apply online.
DEADLINES FOR 2008-2009 APPLICATION AND
REQUIRED SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
Due by postmark March 1, 2008:

Completed application
-
Official transcript with your fall 2007
grades and cumulative GPA
-
IF SOLDIER IS ACTIVE GUARD OR RESERVE,
copy of orders showing federal
activation (Title 10) for entire
academic year (August 1, 2008 - May 1,
2009).

IF SOLDIER IS DECEASED WHILE ON ACTIVE
DUTY, copy of casualty report.

The 2008 Student Aid Report (SAR) is the
resulting analysis of the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
o
To obtain your 2008 SAR, you must apply for
the 2008 FAFSA either through your school or
through FAFSA’s website at
www.fafsa.ed.gov. FAFSA’s 2008
application will be available January 1,
2008.
o
You must mail your 2008 SAR to AER by May 1,
2008; FAFSA will not send it to AER
automatically.
